A pot of water that refuses to heat up, flames that die as soon as you place your pot, smoke that stings your eyes: the wood isn't the problem. To effectively light a wood stove, you mainly need to master the air, the size of the fuel, and the lighting sequence. With the right techniques, a few dry twigs are enough to produce strong heat for cooking outdoors.
A good stove fire isn't meant to be big. It should be lively, concentrated, and fed gradually.
